As a non-profit organization founded by veterans, we comprehend the challenges of transitioning to civilian life after service. With the contributions of Dave Culley, Anthony Lunghi, Erica Wacaster, and other supporters, we have established the first of many gardens at Veterans Haven North. These gardens will provide residents and staff with an uncomplicated, cost-effective gardening approach to cultivate healthy food and pass on gardening skills to others. The healing power these gardens offer to veterans and staff is profound and uplifting. Working with one's hands, alongside others, in the soil brings a sense of comfort and tranquility. To fully grasp the impact of this program, it is essential to understand the experiences and journeys of our veteran community.
Join us as a volunteer to support veterans, contribute, learn, and exchange experiences.
Joining us as a volunteer means becoming a vital part of our mission to support veterans in their transition to civilian life. By offering your time and skills, you can make a meaningful impact on our community. Working in the gardens at Veterans Haven North will not only allow you to contribute to the cultivation of healthy food but also provide you with the opportunity to learn valuable gardening skills that you can pass on to others. The healing power of these gardens is undeniable, offering a sense of peace and connection as we work together with our hands in the soil.
As we continue to grow and expand our gardening program, we invite you to be a part of this journey. Your support, dedication, and willingness to learn and share experiences will not only benefit our veterans but also enrich your own life in ways you never imagined. Together, we can create a nurturing environment that fosters growth, healing, and community. Join us today and be a part of something truly special.
In 2024, Local Food Heroes will be launched in a community near you, coinciding with our second season at Veterans Haven North. We are thrilled to announce a fourfold expansion. Thanks to your ongoing support, we have grown to a size that allows us to establish a promising partnership with Nourish NJ, a food bank in Morris County, NJ, serving over 800 families daily from a single location.
Your generosity enables us to produce fresh, naturally grown food for these families. The support we receive covers everything from purchasing supplies for seedlings and transplanting to harvesting, packaging, and delivery. To achieve our mission, we are assembling a team of volunteers across New Jersey. Our program focuses on pairing veterans from foreign wars with current first responders in local communities. This pairing aids veterans in transitioning from Veterans Haven North to one of our Tye's House homes in the region. Join us in supporting Local Food Heroes in feeding families in need.

“. . . make it your ambition to live quietly, to mind your own business and to earn your living by your own efforts — just as we told you. Then your daily life will gain the respect of outsiders, and you will not be dependent on anyone.”
